Studio Artist Residency- Lillie Pad Studios, LLC

The goal of the studio Artist Residency program at Lillie Pad Studios, LLC is to provide emerging artists a place to productively make their artwork in exchange for helping to run and maintain the art studios and educational facilities. This position is well suited for BFA graduates with a concentration in glass and sculpture who are interested in building a body of work for application to graduate school or other professional endeavors as well as gaining real experience in teaching and maintaining the art studios. This partnership is designed to provide emerging artists a rent-free living situation, open access to the art studios, and plenty of personal work time so that they may continue to develop a professional artist portfolio. In exchange, Lillie Pad Studios, LLC expects the Studio Artist Resident to help further expand its scope as the premier, state of the art glass and sculpture educational facility in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Work assignments are studio related and designed to encourage professional development. We offer residents around the clock (except during class times) access to the cold shop, metals, lampworking, casting, fusing/slumping, and ceramics studios plus 10 hours of hot shop time a week in exchange for 30 hours/week of work helping maintain the art studios. Equipment and clear soda-lime glass is provided, residents are responsible for all other materials.

Studio Artist Residents will have the opportunity to receive one-on-one instruction from the studio director, artist Michelle Lillie. She will be available by appointment to consult during scheduled blow slots and she will be available for discussion during her posted office/studio hours. Resident Artists may bring in their own assistant as long as they meet the requirements for renting studio blow slots, sign a liability waiver, and participate in a brief studio introduction and safety discussion. Studio assistants will be expected to assist one another when there is more than one resident artist living and/ or working at Lillie Pad Studios, LLC. A small work area will be provided for each Studio Artist Resident and he/she is strongly encouraged to focus on his/her own artwork when not on the clock. Studio Artist Residencies run for approximately 3 months and may be renewed upon review. We welcome applications year round. Local Studio Assistantships- Lillie Pad Studios, LLC

The goal of the Local Studio Assistantship program at Lillie Pad Studios, LLC is to provide local glass artists, metal workers, ceramicists and sculptors a place to productively make their artwork in exchange for assistance making Michelle Lillie's artwork and expanding and maintaining the art studios and educational facilities. This partnership is designed to provide local artists open access to the studios and plenty of time blowing glass in the hot shop so that they may develop a focused body of artwork. In exchange, Lillie Pad Studios, LLC expects the studio assistant to help further expand its scope as the premier, state of the art glass and sculpture educational facility in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Work assignments are studio related and aim to encourage professional development. We offer assistants open access (except during class times) to the cold shop, metals, lampworking, casting, fusing/slumping, and ceramics studios plus 5 hours of hot shop time a week in exchange for 10 hours/week of work helping maintain the art studios. Equipment and clear soda-lime glass is provided, local assistants are responsible for all other materials. Note: assistants must be cleared my Michelle Lillie before using centrifugal casting equipment, potters wheel, torches, TIG welder, and cold working equipment. Any equipment used outside of scheduled blow slots must be scheduled two weeks prior to use. This includes casting ovens, centrifugal caster, potters wheel, torches, TIG welder, cold working equipment, and any other equipment that may interfere with Michelle Lillie’s art making process or scheduled classes in the studios. To apply for this position, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. Local Studio Internships- Lillie Pad Studios, LLC

Lillie Pad Studios welcomes students of all experience levels to apply for studio internships. Students will earn 2 hours of personal blow time in exchange for helping around the studios 6 hours per week. This is a great way for aspiring glass artists to practice glassblowing techniques on a regular basis in aim to learn more quickly and affordably than taking our glassblowing courses.
